Not all campgrounds are created equal. If you’re looking for a tent or RV campsite that leans strongly to the side of primitive or rustic, two campgrounds come to mind:  Eureka Campground and Wellington Reservoir.

Eureka Campground requires driving a few mountain passes, several hours from the I-25 corridor.

Eureka Campground is located 8 miles north of Silverton CO, several hours from Denver

Wellington Reservoir is a short distance from the Denver metro area.

While Eureka Campground offers electricity at their RV sites (if you desire it), Wellington Reservoir offers no utilities.

Regardless of your pick, have your camera ready. The scenery to and from, as well as AT, is simply fantastic!

Many Colorado campgrounds offer tent sites. You can search our site for them by going to the Find A Campground page, scroll down to the search criteria SITE TYPES and choose TENT SITES. The pins that then appear on the MAP (or the campgrounds that are on the LIST) are the ones that offer tent sites.
